Bidoun magazine is a quarterly publication founded in 2004 with the intention of filling a gaping hole in the arts and culture coverage of the Middle East and its Diaspora.
Lisa Farjam
Founder / Editor in Chief
Lisa Farjam started Bidoun in the fall of 2003. She graduated with a BA in Literature from Bard College in 2000. She lives and works in New York City.
Negar Azimi
Senior Editor
Negar was based in Cairo until 2004, working as a curatorial assistant at the Townhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art. She is a member of the Beirut-based Fondation Arabe pour l’Image, with whom she is working on photographic projects in Iran and the greater Arab region. She studied politics at Stanford and Harvard, and is now at Columbia, where she’s pursuing a PhD.
Michael C Vazquez
Senior Editor
Mike is a writer and editor. Before Bidoun he was the editor of Transition: An International Review, and remains a nonresident fellow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard.
Antonia Carver
Bidoun Projects / Editor-at-Large
Besides Bidoun, Antonia contributes to the Art Newspaper and Screen International, among other newspapers, magazines and books, mainly on contemporary art and film in the Middle East. Based in Dubai, she programmes Arab and Iranian films for both the Edinburgh and Dubai international film festivals, and is a member of the APT Intelligence Network. Publications include WITH/WITHOUT (Bidoun, 2007, with Shumon Basar and Marcus Miessen) and BLINK (Phaidon, 2002).
Babak Radboy
Creative Director
Babak Radboy is an artist living in New York City. Besides Bidoun and his personal work he is a freelance art director, produces music and attends to an eccentric archive of printed matter. His work can be viewed at babakradboy.com.
Rumors
Art Direction
Rumors is a multi-disciplinary, Brooklyn-based design studio founded in 2008 by Holly Gressley, Renda Morton and Andy Pressman. The studio works closely with clients and collaborators to consider the logic, function, and aesthetic of each project. Work can be seen at rumors-studio.com.
Tiffany Malakooti
Special Projects
Tiffany studied at the California Institute of the Arts. She runs a blog about Persian ephemera called Belog and curates Bidoun’s UbuWeb archive.
Danya Hakimian
Advertising Director
Danya oversees advertising, marketing, and business development for Bidoun. She joins us from W magazine and Vanity Fair, and was initially compelled to enter the magazine world after completing her journalism degree at New York University.
Hassan Khan
Contributing Editor
Hassan Khan works with music, sound, image, text and concept. Khan’s work has been installed, exhibited, performed and screened in independent spaces, festivals and institutions around the world. He has been published in various magazines and journals and has served as senior editor at ALIVE Magazine. He lives and works in Cairo, Egypt.
Kaelen Wilson-Goldie
Contributing Editor
Kaelen Wilson-Goldie is a writer who lives and works in Beirut. She has contributed essays on contemporary art and visual culture in the Arab world to exhibition catalogues and anthologies, and has written for The New York Times, The Times of London and The Village Voice, among other publications. In addition to Bidoun, she works as a staff writer for The National and a correspondent for Artforum.
Alexander Provan

Alexander Provan is a writer and editor living in Brooklyn. Beyond Bidoun, he is a founding editor of the online magazine Triple Canopy. His work has appeared in The Nation, The Believer, and GQ, among other publications.
Sophia Al-Maria

Sophia Al-Maria is based in Doha, Qatar where she is Gulf Collection Curator at the soon-to-be-opened-and-renamed Arab Museum of Modern Art. She is currently writing a book for Harper Perennial entitled Dune Coon or Al-Amerikiya depending on her mood at deadline.
Shumon Basar

Shumon Basar is a writer, editor and curator. He co-edited the Bidoun published With/Without, and other books including Did Someone Say Participate, Cities from Zero, The World of Madelon Vriesendorp, and Hans Ulrich Obrist Interviews Vol II. Shumon co-founded the print/collective sexymachinery, and is a contributing editor to Tank magazine. He also directs the Cultural Programme at the AA, London.
Alia Al-Sabi
Bidoun Projects Coordinator
Born in Dubai, Alia Al-Sabi graduated from the American University of Sharjah with a degree in architecture and a minor in philosophy. She spent her initial post-grad years exploring architecture within Dubai’s commercial reality of gated-communities, and Amman’s social potential of slums.
Ofurhe Igbinedion
Circulation Manager
Ofurhe graduated from the Putney School in 2005 which she feels is just as much of an accomplishment as her graduation from the University of Chicago with a dual-degree in Near Eastern Languages and Geography in 2009. She has worked for the California Monthly and the University of Chicago Press Journals. At Bidoun she is in charge of subscriptions and distribution in addition to being an informal archivist.
Dan DeNorch
Business Manager
Dan DeNorch graduated from Brown University where he studied art history.
